Haenyeos founded volunteer organizations, called Jamsuhoi, where they manage the risks of their profession, coordinate their work, communicate issues with the public, and resolve village issues through democratic voting and decision-making, allowing them to remain autonomous and serve their interests. Members of the Jamsuhoi have to fulfill obligations like maintaining their sea field by weeding it, and funding village works like public roads and village schools. There is also a hierarchy in the Jamsuhoi that determines who has the right to speak first, based on diving skills. The higher diving skills speak first, followed by the medium skills, and finally the lower skills.
